Creation of CD Digipaks:
There are many types of research which can be done for the creation of a CD insert, known as a digipak. Firstly, the first type of research I would look into is Primary research, because you want to focus on your audience and who the digipaks would sell to. Also, whilst focusing on your audience it is important to remember what is out there already and what impresses the audience. Keeping in mind the audience are students studying creative media, it is vital to always put this target market at the front of our research.
The Primary research would consist of myself giving out questionnaires and surveys to ask the target market what they are looking for in the new creation. Therefore, Primary research also ties in with Production research so when looking into Production research I would be focusing on what brands and products are already out there and how we can make our new idea different but targeted towards the audience. The research for the creation will allow myself to understand what the students are looking for and how types of research contribute to the making of a new product, such as a digipak. It is imperative with the primary research that we find out exactly what the audience are looking for and what would make it sell to them. Also, Secondary research comes into the equation as it is as important to find out opinions on what is already out there, therefore, using useful sources of research which is already out there it is helpful to make use of these resources. For example, I will be using social media to find out what people are saying about different types of digipaks and at the same time utilising Primary research at the same time to put interviews and focus groups into place to have a real, clear idea of what the audience are wanting and anticipating about and it is important to ask fans what they think of digipaks for the new creation of the product.
Pros & Cons:
There are many types of pros and cons to the different types of research done for the creation of a digipak which is in the insert of a CD cover.
Primary research Pros & Cons:
Primary research is first hand research and when working with a creation of a music cd insert, it is important to ask what the audience are looking for. Therefore, surveys, questionnaires would be finalised to help the companies who are investing their money into a new product to understand exactly what the audience are looking for in the new creation. However, there are also cons to this type of research such as, money is required to find out the first hand information and it is very time consuming asking many people their opinion on what they want . The best type of research method for Digipaks, is questionnaires as it provides multiply choice questions for the target audience you are aiming at to answer. By providing a questionnaire we can see what the audience like but also we can see what is already out their by consuming market research. Market research allows us to look into what is already out their for us to compete with other competitors. Moreover, the questionnaire is a type of primary research and I feel this is the most appropriate type of research to connect with the audience and understand what they are wanting and looking for. By using a questionnaire it allows us to narrow down ideas for the primary research. A questionnaire which we used had boxes where the audience would tick what they would like, also there was a dotted line for them to write other ideas which they would like to see, it is vital to listen to the audience as they are ones buying the digipaks. Lastly, the market research provides us with information of what is out there so we combine a variety of different ideas to create something new but making sure we are aiming the new idea at our audience. An example below explains what I would do whilst I am in the preparation stages of making a Digipak, the example shows what I would do for Rhianna:
Secondary research Pros & Cons:
The pros to the Secondary research is that the information is already out there for example, books, internet and many other types of resources such as social media. Therefore, for this type of research it would be best to look at social media and peoples opinions. Also, obtaining this information consists of little effort as the information is findable. However, the information can also be unreliable within some sources such as Wikipedia and the information could be out of date. The advantage to secondary research is looking into what is already out there, therefore the best way to find this information out is by looking through social media to see what the audience say about what is out there. It is important to listen to the audience when researching through social media; as you want to give the audience a new creation. This conveys the best type of secondary research for digipaks is looking through social media and gather information through the internet.
An Advantage of secondary research is that the information is already out there for people to use for their research. An example of this is that , advertisement companies will look into what there is out there, to help make their digipak or other creation in the way the audience want it. By having a digipak made in a way the audience like increases the money made on music, digipaks and merchandise sales; therefore it is important researchers use the media out there to look into what the audience want. For example, Researchers use snapchat to follow certain people such as celebrities, to keep updated with what they like and what their target market like to help with research to create the product such as a digipak.
For example If I was researching into a digipak for Rihana I would go into shops for women and Men such as Topshop, River Island and give out surveys as part of my Primary Research. Above, shows a picture of Rhiana's previous digipaks, the diigpak is postioned at the top of the page.
Carry On!
Secondary Research:
The best type of research method for secondary research would be using the internet and research comments on Twitter, Facebook and other types of social media to find out what different people think of digipaks. It is important to look at the profiles of the people commenting to make sure they are part of your target market, it is vital to look into what your target market are looking for as they are the people who will buy the digipaks. By using the internet you can utilise material which has been based on the internet for us as the researchers to use to take into consideration. The internet has many types of sources and some can be true and some may not, therefore when researching it is important to use appropriate webpages and social media as you have true views towards what digipaks are out there; to help make ours stand out and be different to what is out there. Below is a picture of a women on facebook, using this type of social media to gather information to help with the creation of a digipak. The reason why using social media is a good form of secondary research, is because it is easy access, low cost which is an advantage as researchers can get information without expenses involved. Also, another example is a person using twitter for secondary research which we can see below, this type of social media is easy to access and shows opinions and views on certain people or topics, therefore it allows researchers to understand what people like and do not like to incorporate this into the making of digipaks.

Creation Of Music Videos:
When creating a music video there are many types of research which need to be taken into consideration. Firstly, audience research is one of the most important to do when creating a music video. You have to keep your audience in mind at all times to understand what they want and are looking for. The purpose of audience research is to research in detail before you make the initial product. For example,if you don't research before the project many things can go wrong, such as making a music video which is not appropriate for the correct audience. It is a type of research which will enable us to know attitudes, knowledge and interests which will conduct the audience research. Another type of research which is crucial for making music videos is, Production research as you need to plan locations and the fiances for the companies to know if they want to invest their money into the new music video for a specific target audience. Also, not only does production research find out about locations and money, companies employ trained researchers to find out publicity stunts, which are designed events to attract the target audience. It is important that companies use production research when working on new upcoming music videos as it is vital to find out about money, locations and publicity. Moreover,Qualitative research is also another form of research which is used when making music videos. It helps with overcoming problems and helps with new ideas and to develop those ideas further. It is a great type of research which is used for making music videos as it is able to see opinions and insights into what motivates people. It is not just based on statistics it is also based on opnions which can come through reviews, social media and websites.
Pros & Cons:
There are many types of Pros and cons to different types of research which contributes to the making of music videos. Firstly, Audience research is often the beginning of a campaign for something such as a new music video,it is a type of research which is not governed which is an advantage. The benefit to audience research is that you will be sure it relates to your audience due to the campaign. However, a con would be that researchers may not campaign the correct information which is appropriate for a certain target audience. Qualitative research is more detailed with opinions and and it is reliable it is not just a number on a screen. But a con would be opinions differ due to taste and audience. Also, Production research advantages would be that the researchers gather relevant information by trained employees. A disadvantage would be that production research is costly and very much so time consuming, which apply's to why music videos do not always come out on time as the correct research has to be done. For audience research it is best to research into what people think , it is vital to think of the audience all the time because they are the ones who are going to watch the music videos. For this type of research it is best to use quantitative and qualitative research as it is important to look into statistics such as on you tube the views go up all the time ,also it is important to look at the comment sections. By looking into what people say under a video it allows researchers to provide a new music video and give the audience what they want, however it is also important to look into the negative comments to see what we can improve on in the future. Therefore, using qualitative and quantitative research methods it will allow us to contribute to a new music video by seeing statistics and comment sections which will help us provide a new music video.

This link above shows Adele's music video When we Were young. It shows very well production research as you can see in the music video, locations and you can estimate roughly how expensive this music video must have been. The location was in a hall so we can tell that it may not have been much to rent. However, you can also tell that Qualitative research has been used to make sure the music video is different from other videos. We can tell this music video is very different from other pop stars as i is quite stripped back with no props , which shows it is different from other music videos such as Lady Gaga who uses many props. Therefore, we can tell that the market research has been done as we can see this music video is different to other artists.

Introduction:
This Assignment is on Research within the Creative Media Industries. Firstly, the purpose of the assignment is to look into how different types of research and methods can contribute to different media products. I will be looking into the methods and techniques which enable the research to help make a final product. In this case I will be looking clearly at how types of research can be done for the creation of Album magazine adverts, CD inserts and the research which could be done for the creation of a Music Video.
Types of research consist of, Primary,Secondary,Qualitative,Quantitative,Market&Audience and Production research. All these types of research contribute to the creation of Digipaks, Magazine adverts and Music Videos.
Primary research is a type of research which is surveys, questionnaires and interviews.Secondary research is research which already is out there for us to access for example, the internet. Qualitative research is opinions not just statistics for example, it provides a hypothesis to the issue. Quantitative research,is where numerical data is used to find out information.Market and Audience research is a type of research which is based on the audience.
Lastly, Production research, is to research locations and finances. Also, when researching there are a variety of different methods depending on the research. For example, when researching into primary research you could use a survey format to gather your findings to help with the research task of making a digipak, album magazine advert or a music video.
Qualitative research is a type of research which allows the researcher to know more detail for example their opinions, lifestyle and attitudes, you could use social media and explore the audiences opinions to gather information to help find Qualitative research. Quantitative research involved numerical data and fact to find this data, methods would consist of,readership numbers for example how many people read a certain magazine. Market and Audience is finding out who the competitors are and what the audience like, research would include, researching other brands to see what is already in the market. Lastly, Production research is a type of research which needs to be done before something takes place, for example a film.
This research would consist of methods such as, looking into how to show the product in the best way. The product has to be shown in the best way for the audience to engage in the product. Also, production research would allow companies to know if they should invest their money into a new product, therefore it is vital the research is the best it can be due to the finances. Production research is an important stage as locations need to be found to allow filming to go ahead such as a music video.
Creation of Album Magazine Adverts:
There are many types of research which contribute to the creation of album magazine adverts. A album magazine advert is shown in music magazines which show the audience an advert of the album or artist. It is a type of advertisement to get the target market to buy the album. The type of research for Album Magazine adverts consist of Quantitive research;because this is a type of research which shows data so for example I will be able to know how many people read that magazine due to the statistics. It is a systematic process which is able to show readership numbers and data. This research will allow the companies to understand if this type of research is useful and beneficial. Also, it is important that we know the statistics and understand if this type of research is best when looking into the creation of Album Magazine Adverts. Also, another type of research which is useful when looking into the Creation of Album Magazine Adverts, is Market Research. This is an important type of research for this type of creation as it is vital to understand what the target market are wanting and also we need to know what is already out there. For example, it is vital to look into what other creations are out there and what the target market react to, in this case the target market are students so it is important to see what they like and what makes them by a magazine. However, when looking into Market research it is important to keep the audience at the fore front of your mind to understand what the research can offer to contribute to a new creation of a magazine album advert.
Pros & Cons:
There are many pros to Quantitative research as well as cons. Firstly, the pros are, the research can be accurate and visual. For example readerships can be on a spread sheet or collected on a database. However, there are also cons such as the numbers such as data is not always rounded up and the research is just a number which can not prove so much. However, for the creation of an Album magazine advert it is crucial to look into readership numbers as you want to know how many people read a certain magazine advertising the Album cover. Also with this type of research you can see final sales which is a pro as it is important to know how the magazine sells and who it sells to.
Moreover, there is also advantages and disadvantages to Market Research, firstly the pros are, that you have to keep the audience at the front of your mind, because the research has to be concise to make a successful album cover. Also, you have to look into other products which are out there and have done well, for example looking at other companies products and see which audience it is appropriate for. But there are also cons such as, you have to know the preferences exactly and the needs of the company which can be hard to research. Also, market research is costly and time consuming you have to research what your audience are wanting. Also, you can not just ask a few people which links to primary research as you need many peoples opinions on surveys to gather enough creditable information to form market research. Overall, the best type of research is market research and Quantitative research, as for market you need to see what is out there already such as online social media and see what people think of other album magazine adverts, as we are competing against other competitors. Also with quantitative research it is important we look into the statistics of how many readership numbers there are for certain magazines so we can collate what we need to base our magazine on to have the best readership numbers to compete against other magazines, therefore we have to remember our audience at the forefront of our mind to give them what they want to increase readership numbers.

This youtube link above, is a link in which Steve Jobs the owner of apple explains the importance of market research. I quote,' We have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us'. This shows when competing with other brands for example other album magazines, you need to be sure your album magazine is individual to make the audience like your product such as the album magazine. The audience want to see that the market research has not been copied and that the album magazine is fresh and new. The whole point of market research is to compare brands and to compete against other companies to be well known and for the album magazine to be recognized.
This quote by Steve Jobs relates to primary research because some may disagree with primary research such as focus groups, whilst others may agree with market research like Steve Jobs. Market research allows you to see what is out there , so you know what to do differently.
Examples of Album Magazine adverts are below, Olly Murs and Jessie J:
